What the Casinos mean to Barstow
An Investment in Barstow
It is currently estimated that at least $160 million will be invested
in the city of Barstow to construct the casino complex. The scope and
cost of the projects could be increased to meet the demands of the market.
Enough land to allow for growth has been secured.
A Boost to the Local Economy
The positive economic benefits of this casino complex to the city of
Barstow are nearly limitless. While the numbers are impressive, they
are magnified for the citizens of Barstow and local businesses. This
hotel and entertainment complex will for all practical purposes be operated
and staffed by Barstow residents. The Tribes will bring in experienced
professionals to train local residents in every aspect of casino operations.
The residents of Barstow will receive a preference in hiring and local
businesses will receive a preference as vendors to the casino.
Supporting 4,000 jobs
Creating and supporting more than 4,000 jobs in the community:
• 900 construction year jobs to build the casino complex
• 2,100 direct jobs created at the casino and supporting businesses:
• 1,700 casino jobs
• 400 at supporting businesses
• 1,000 induced jobs in the community
• Average full-time worker will make in excess of $30,000 per year with
medical
and retirement benefits
Overnight Visitors
A total of 148,000 hotel room nights are projected, which include:
• 67,000 room nights at the casino/resort
• 78,000 room nights using other hotels in Barstow
Revenue Projections
• $214.5 milion in annual revenues at the casino complex, 98% coming from
visitors living more than 30 miles away
• $19 million spent annually at other Barstow businesses by casino customers
• At least $34 million spent annually with outside vendors
Community Revenues and Benefits
• The Tribes will have binding mitigation agreements with the city.
• Estimated $6.7 million to be paid directly to the cIty under our Municipal
Services Agreement in the first full year of operations alone.
• Estimated city payments of over $190 million over a period of 20 years
(with a
4% growth factor).
• The city will collect additional property taxes on the property not taken
into
trust, local hotel occupancy taxes, sales and other use of taxes and taxes
generated by the visitors to the casino and employees of the casino complex
and its vendors.
The Tribes will also:
• Provide the city with 1.5 acres of land to build a fire station and pay
for 50% of
the construction costs
• Provide the city with 50% of the costs of an emergency response vehicle
• Pay the city for all service development and impact fees
• Provide the city with $40,000 annually for problem gambling programs
• Reimburse the city for law enforcement costs to police special events
• Pay the costs of training Barstow firefighters to handle emergency situations
if
the project is over four stories
• Pay the costs for traffic mitigation and any necessary environmental
mitigation
• Set the age limit to gamble at the casino at 21 years of age
• Ensure that the project passes strict environmental reviews
